Diversifying risk is critical to any financial planning.
Capital preservation is paramount in any investment strategy, with today's volatile markets. As a former managing director of an investment company I was always looking for new areas to invest client's monies. With some stock markets at all time highs and share valuations now looking extended, it may be a suitable time to visit alternative investments as a small part of a clients portfolio.
Rare coins are the least correlated asset to the property and volatile stock markets and so can provide an alternative investment, typically 5-10% of a portfolio. There have been phenomenal returns seen in the Australia rare coin market 15%plus per annum, although this is now consolidating. Gold coins from countries such as England not only provides a fascinating history, but are good value in comparison to Australian coins, and have been providing about 12 ½% per annum return over the last 6 years.
